Demonstrators break through western gate of Nepal's administrative hub amid escalating protests
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 9
Gen Z protesters, who have been staging demonstrations against corruption and recent government decisions, entered the Singha Durbar premises on Tuesday after breaking through its western gate.
Witnesses reported that the crowd forced its way past the main gates into the country's central administrative complex. They have also reportedly set the gate on fire.
The breach at Singha Durbar, the seat of Nepal's government ministries and offices, comes as protests intensify across the country. Demonstrators have also engaged in vandalism and arson at multiple locations, targeting political leaders' residences and party offices.
Authorities have already imposed curfews in key areas of the capital following the deaths of 19 protesters in Monday's demonstration.
With protesters pushing into Nepal's highest administrative center, tensions remain high, and uncertainty looms over the government's next steps.
