Call to form independent commission to review Constitution

KATHMANDU: The Global Policy Forum for Nepal has requested the government to establish an independent commission of experts to review the Constitution.

Issuing a press statement, the United Kingdom-based Forum's Chairman Surya P Subedi said lack of political consensus created problems in the smooth implementation of Constitution. Stating so, he claimed that the formation of the committee would be a solution.

Subedi has suggested that the government should work for greater interests of people, restore confidence in democracy and build a fair and cohesive society.

He claimed that the rule of law was getting weaker adding that politicisation of the educational institutions, civil service, diplomatic service, police service and judiciary also created irregularities.

Subedi also expressed his deep concerns over the violence and use of live ammunition at demonstrators in Saptari district that resulted in the death of four persons and injuries to dozen others.

In the same context, he also requested the security forces to exercise maximum restraint and not to resort to violence.
