Gongabu people oppose ‘illegal’

Kathmandu, November 17:

Locals of Gongabu have raised voice against an ‘illegal’ construction of a commercial ‘Terminal Building’ within the Gongabu Bus Park by the Lohtse Multipurpose Private Limited (LMPL), which has won the contract to protect and manage the area.

A press release issued by a committee of locals including Yogendra Kumar Shrestha, Barsha Ram Bhandari, Suman Kumar Shrestha has stated that the LMPL has violated the agreement signed with the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) in April 2000 to retain the originality of the bus park.

It said the LMPL, guided by commercial motives, is illegally constructing the terminal building by demolishing the waiting station worth Rs 20 million, which was constructed with the Japanese government’s assistance some 14 years ago.

The committee has also lodged a complaint in the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to probe into the illegal construction, stop the illegal construction and punish the persons involved in it.

The release also mentioned that the committee is going to launch a signature campaign against the illegal construction and to press the government to act against it. “The campaign will continue till the bus park is brought back to its original state,” it said.
