Government grants Sujata Koirala Rs 5 mln for treatment

KATHMANDU: The government on Sunday decided to provide Nepali Congress leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Sujata Koirala with Rs 5 million financial support for her treatment.

Koirala has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer.

A Cabinet meeting made a decision to this effect, according to a source close to the government leadership.

A minister who was present in the meeting today, however, said the decision did not clearly mention the amount. The minister on the condition of anonymity said the government decided to bear all her treatment expenses.

A statement issued by the PM's Secretariat about the meeting today, however, does not mention anything about this decision.
