Govt action riles DDC Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu District Development Committee is unhappy with the government decision of transferring to it seven section officer-level secretaries at a time many Village Development Committees across the country are without one.

Gopal Prasad Parajuli, Local Development Officer at the KDDC, said 29 VDC secretaries were transferred to the local body a few months ago while there were no transfers to other districts.

The late disbursement of the allocated budget has also riled the local body. Prawin Pyakurel, KDCC information officer, said the government released Rs 42.5 million for the last fiscal year only one week before its end. "The budget should have been spent last fiscal. We plan to carry out the planned projects by mid-November,'" he added. There are 183 projects, including infrastructure development, skill-training and social security, to be completed.

Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya, spokesperson for Ministry of Local Development, said the budget could not be released on time since the Ministry of Finance did not allocate the budget on time.
