Govt agrees to meet TU part-timers’ demands

Kathmandu, August 24 :

Tribhuvan University (TU) part-time teachers, who were on protest demanding permanent appointment to those who have taught for one year in any constituent campuses of TU, ended their protest today.

They ended their protest after a letter signed by the Minister for Finance Ram Sharan Mahat, Minister for Education and Sports Dr Mangal Siddhi Manandhar and State Minister for Information and Communication Dilendra Badu was handed over to the TU part time teachers at Ratnapark today.

The government has agreed to provide permanent appointment to 900 TU part-time teachers who have completed one year of teaching following Tuesday’s cabinet decision.

Nanda Kishor Singh, president of the TU Part Time Teachers’ Association (TUPTTA), broke his hunger strike today. Demanding their three-point demand be met, the part-timers had been staging protests for quite some time.

Their demands include giving appointment on contract basis for those who have completed one year of teaching in any constituent campuses of the university, permanent appointment to those who have completed two academic sessions and frequent advertisement for the vacancy along with equivalent salary scale to that of readers.
