Govt open competition bid enrages temporary teachers

KATHMANDU: Temporary teachers today took to streets protesting the government decision to grant them permanent status through an open competition.

Talking to The Himalayan Times, Nirendra Kunwar, president, Temporary Teachers Struggle Committee, said that the temporary teachers’ representatives from across the country also staged a sit-in at the Ministry of Education (MoE).

“We have been staging sit-in before the MoE since last week but we have not got any response from the government yet,” he said.

“We’re now lobbying the political parties in order to draw the attention of the concerned authority towards our plight,” he said, adding, “Political parties are positive about our proposal.”

On October 28, temporary teachers’ union had signed a 14-point deal with the government. Clause number four of the agreement states that the 12,096 temporary teachers would be allowed to sit for open competition in order to get the

permanent status.
