Rs 1 mln each to kin of those killed in Tarai protests, public holiday for two days to celebrate statute promulgation
KATHMANDU: The government has decided to provide Rs 1 million each to the bereaved families of those who lost their life in the spate of violent protests in various Tarai districts since mid-August.
A Cabinet meeting held at Singha Durbar this morning made the decision to provide the relief to the kith and kin of the security personnel, protesters and members of general public who were killed in the protests against the purported provisions in new constitution
Also, the government formally decided to provide free treatment to those who were injured.
The meeting has also decided to add 26 more municipalities combining existing Village Development Committees.
Meanwhile, the government has announced two days of public holiday on September 20 and 21 to celebrate commencement of the new constitution.
The second Constituent Assembly on Wednesday endorsed “Nepal’s Constitution 2072” with an overwhelming two-thirds majority.
The new constitution will come into effect after President Ram Baran Yadav announces the commencement of the new constitution at 5:00pm on September 20 during the last meeting of the CA.
