Govt, UDMF form two-member committee to address demands

KATHMANDU: Talks teams of the government and agitating United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) on Sunday decided to form a two-member committee to address various demands of the alliance.

The decision was made during a meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singha Durbar this afternoon.

The meeting has authorised Minister for Law Agni Kharel from the government side and Vice-Chairman of the Federal Socialist Forum- Nepal Lalbabu Raut from the UDMF to work on the matter, Laxman Lal Karna of the Sadhbhawana Party informed.

The alliance has been demanding withdrawal of curfew, releasing all arrested protesters, compensation to the family of deceased and treatment of injured protesters, among others.

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday.

The government would present its clear opinion regarding review on demarcation of federal units on the same day, Karna told THT Online.

The leader said that though the meeting could not make a concrete decision, it was positive.
