Govt urged to call off milk holidays

Kathmandu, April 27:

The upcoming government should address dairy farmers’ woes by making efforts to ward off

frequent strikes and milk holidays, Krishna Prasad Sapkota, president of the Lalitpur District Milk Production Cooperatives Association Limited (LDMPC), told this daily today.

As the DDC could not collect milk from 33 districts during the strike period, it had to depend on powdered milk brought from Biratnagar, India and New Zealand.

Siyaram Prasad Singh, manager of the technical division at the DDC, said, “Milk could not be collected though tankers were sent to Banepa, Panauti and Chitwan as the dairy farmers refused to sell milk.” Collection of milk commenced yesterday.
