GPK disagrees with new provision
KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) president Girija Prasad Koirala stated that the party's president should be given special powers.
Speaking at a prorammme organised on the occasion of the Teej festival at his residence in Maharajgunj on Saturday, veteran leader Koirala said the president should not be restricted to a limited boundary. He backed the existing system but expressed his dissatisfaction over the proposed provision of his party's constitution drafting committee.
Former prime minister Koirala said that the president should get the right to nominate additional members in the central committee. The existing draft has proposed 71 members in the CC committee including 20 members to be nominated by the president.
Koirala urged party members not to drag the Foreign Minister into further controversy after she refused to accompany the PM on his India trip but suggested that they focus on the upcoming 12th general convention which is expected to be held in March.
