Be on guard against fraudsters: CIB
Kathmandu, March 15
The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police has warned people to be on their guard against fraudsters swindling unsuspecting persons in the guise of police investigators.
The supreme investigating agency said it has arrested as many as eight persons for cheating people by posing as CIB officers in the past few months.
A team deployed from the CIB today nabbed Prakash Regmi (29) of Kerabari-5, Gorkha, currently residing at Baluwatar, from the capital for trying to cheat Jitendra Kumar Shrestha of Dhapasi, Kathmandu.
After Nepal Rastra Bank was about to initiate action against Shrestha through CIB for defaulting on a loan he took from Kumari Bank, Regmi, who is also a director at Narayani Development Bank, posed as a senior official of the central bank and assured Shrestha of settling the case, saying he had a good rapport with police officials.
Earlier, Regmi was also an employee at Kuber Merchant Finance Company Ltd.
CIB Director DIG Nawa Raj Silwal said the investigating agency was concerned about swindlers trying to sully the image of a professional body and had launched an investigation to bring them to book.
“CIB values its integrity and professionalism and will not let anyone discredit the investigating body of Nepal Police.
Nepal Police works professionally and does not accept any donation in cash or kind for any service.
Therefore, I would like to appeal to all to call CIB (4411776 or 9851283140) or email at cib@nepalpolice.gov.np if anyone assures a person of settling his/her case handled by the CIB.
We are ready to initiate action against the fraudsters,” he informed.
