Gurung bodies to come together for Lhosar
Kathmandu, December 27:
Different Tamu (Gurung) organisations in Kathmandu are gearing up to celebrate together their biggest festival Lhosar at Tundikhel this year for three days from Friday to Sunday.
Due to ideological differences, the Tamu National Liberation Front (TNLF) had celebrated the Lhosar at Tundikhel while other groups had gone to Shankha Park to celebrate it last year.
The celebrations this year will begin on Friday morning with a motorbike rally that will begin from Shahidgate and return to Tundikhel after passing through different parts of Lalitpur and Kathmandu.
A cultural programme featuring duet song performances will also be held in the noon on Friday. Different traditional sports contests including shot put will also be organised.
According to the convener of the Newa State Coordination Committee of Tamu National Liberation Front (TNLF) RB Tamu, a five-member panel has been formed to manage the celebrations. RB Tamu of TNLF, Dr Ganesh Man Gurung of Tamu Rastriya Parishad, Nar Bahadur Tamu of Tamu Chhojha Dhi, Del Man Tamu from intellectuals and Chandra Kala Tamu from women are the members of the panel.
President of the UML-affiliated Loktantrik Tamu Sangh Bijaya Tamu has been given the responsibility to joint-convene the celebrations.
RB Tamu said while Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala will attend the main function on the third day as the chief guest, Maoist chairman Prachanda has given his words to
attend the celebrations and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal is also likely to attend the function to exchange greetings.
A seminar on “Restructuring of the State and the role of Tamu” will be organised on the second day of the celebrations.
According to RB Tamu some 80 stalls would be placed at Tundikhel for celebration and the organisers have expected some 150,000 people visiting the celebration this year.
