Gwarko vandalism losses run into lakhs
Lalitpur, August 31 :
The panel formed to investigate the looting and destruction of private properties on August 20 and 21 in the Gwarko area said today that property worth Rs 3,782,736 was destroyed in the incident. The panel will submit its report to Chief District Officer of Lalitpur tomorrow.
A group of miscreants
had looted and vandalised private properties in the name of protesting against price hike of petroleum products on August 20 and 21 in the area.
According to Chiri Babu Maharjan, a member of the panel, the investigation was carried out with technical support from the District Technical Office, Lalitpur. “As the national level team is separately investigating the case of vandalising of petrol pumps, we did not include the same to avoid duplication,” said Maharjan. He added that the panel probed into loss of property in 21 cabin restaurants, on the premises of petrol pumps and private properties.
“We evaluated the loss of private properties on the basis of written lists given by the owners. The investigation found that three motorcycles were set afire at Namaste Petrol Pump and the windscreen of a Maruti car, which was parked at the compound of Padma Sundar Lawati, was also smashed.
