Hackers target, take down Nepal President's official website

Update: The website has been brought up today late afternoon.

But many contents, including photo gallery, were not recovered till 6:30 pm.

KATHMANDU: The official website of Nepal's President presidentofnepal.gov.np has been hacked.

An underground group of hackers that identified itself as "Anonymous #opnep" has claimed the responsibility on its Facebook page on Saturday.

The site is currently down and the cached home page shows that the site was last updated on Wednesday, July 8.

The group had earlier taken down other government websites also. It has left a message, asking the webmaster to "patch up the security".//

Also, the group, on its Facebook page, has asked the US Embassy in Kathmandu to secure everything on the site, saying the latter's database was in its control.
