Health institutions to shut
KATHMANDU: Demanding professional security, Nepal Medical Association (NMA) today declared closure of health institutions nationwide on December 28. Time and again, health professionals have been demanding security but attacks, threats and manhandling continue.
Dr Neel Mani Upadhyaya, registrar, Nepal Medical Council (NMC) said that an unidentified group assaulted him on Tuesday.
The NMC demanded that an investigation into the case be carried out and that the assailants be brought to book. Dr Kedar Narsingh KC, president, NMA, said that attacks on medical personnel had become a common phenomenon. He accused that the government was unable to control impunity in the country.
He said that the incidents of attacks were increasing as the state was unable to provide security. "We are closing the health institutions to mount pressure on the state,” he said.
NMC in a press release condemned the attack and expressed serious concerns towards the security of medical personnel. It also warned of strong protest if the state continued ignoring its demands.
