Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Bill passed

KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives has also unanimously passed the 'Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Bill, 2075 BS' today.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population, Upendra Yadav, had presented a proposal seeking passage of the Bill in the meeting of the lower house of the Federal Parliament today.

Prior to this, Minister Yadav had presented a proposal seeking deliberations on Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Rights Bill along with the report of Education and Health Committee of the parliament.

Lawmakers Prem Suwal and Durga Poudel took part in the discussions on the proposal. They demanded that the mother should have abortion rights. They also drew the government's attention to clarify about the provision in the Bill which is related to granting one year's unpaid leave to new mothers.

The lower house also unanimously passed the proposal on incorporating amendment by the Committee to Clauses 1-12 of the Bill.

Likewise, Clauses 2-37 of the Bill, its name and preamble have also been approved unopposed.
