Health workers stage agitation

KATHMANDU: All Nepal Progressive Health Worker’s Organisation today staged a sit-in in front of Ministry of Health and Population demanding the fulfilment of their 12-point demand.

According to the organisation, the third round of protest programme was organised after the government refused to invite the agitators for talks.

Chhetraraj Karki, president, ANPHWO, warned of stern action if the government failed to address their demands.

Karki accused the ministry of playing

foul while dispatching health workers in the diarrhoea-hit districts of the far- and mid-western regions. “The ministry is transferring health workers as per their political inclination at this time of urgency,” he said.

Secretary Lila Ram Thapa threatened to halt the delivery of essential health services throughout the country if the ministry did not address their demands within the given time.

Their demands include relief package for the diarrhoea-hit, withdrawal of the decision to transfer the health workers, trade union rights as per the Civil Service Act, effective implementation of National Free Health Programme, provision of reward and punishment, inter alia.
