Health workers' union protest
KATHMANDU: Nepal Health Workers' Union today made their protest programmes public to press the government for amending the health service regulation.
Bhagirath Baniya, president, NHWU, said the Health Service Act came into being three years ago but is still without a regulation.
The union submitted a memorandum on March 12, giving Ministry of Health and Population 21 days to promulgate rules in favour of the health workers.
The agitating health staffers will begin their indefinite sit-in in front of Ministry of Health and Population on September 13.
"We are halting health reporting from district health offices beginning August," said Baniya.
The union will submit its memorandum to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on September 11.
The demands of the health workers include a special package for community female health volunteers, sending medicine to hospitals only after checking their quality and providing health-related items at market prices.
Baniya also said that the posting and promotion of health workers should be more transparent.
