Home Minister Sharma discusses poll security

KATHMANDU: Home Minister Janardan Sharma and Election Commission office-bearers including Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav discussed measures to hold the June 28 local level elections in a peaceful and fearless manner.

During the meeting held at the Election Commission on Tuesday, the security plan developed by the Home Ministry for the elections and the EC preparations for the elections were discussed.

On the occasion, Home Minister Sharma said the government was taking the initiative to resolve the current problems at the political level, while it is committed to ensuring sufficient security arrangement for the upcoming local level elections.

CEC Yadav on the occasion said guarantee of security was essential in the electoral process right from the filing of nominations to voter education, electioneering, voting and  counting of votes.

Also present at the meeting were EC Commissioners Ila Sharma, Narendra Dahal, Iswari Prasad Poudyal and Sudhir Kumar Shaha, Home Secretary Lokdarshan Regmi and Commission Secretary Gopinath Mainali.
