House obstruction continues on third day
KATHMANDU: The opposition parties continued House obstruction for the third consecutive day on Sunday.
Parties including the main opposition CPN-UML have been protesting the Constitution amendment bill that the government registered at the House recently, claiming the proposal was against national interests.
CPN-ML, Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Rastriya Janamorcha and Nepa Rastriya Party have seconded the UML for the obstruction.
As soon as the meeting began today, NWPP lawmaker Anuradha Thapa Magar sought time to speak and demanded that the government immediately withdraw the bill.
After she added that the opposition parties would not let the House proceed with its business unless withdrawal of the bill, lawmakers belonging to the parties stood up from their seats, forcing Speaker Onsari Gharti Magar to halt the business.
The lawmaker had claimed that the amendment bill was registered under the pressure of India.
Meanwhile, Thapa Magar also claimed that some foreign forces pushed the erstwhile Rastriya Prajatantra Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal for a recent merger.
Meanwhile, the next House meeting has been scheduled for 1 pm on Wednesday.
