HSEB to control secondary education
Bhaktapur, May 8:
Pradip Nepal, Minister for Education and Sports today said the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) would most likely take the responsibility of secondary education till the tenth grade as well.
The HSEB should be ready to take the responsibility of phasing in the Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) after it is phased out from Tribhuvan University, said Nepal in a programme organised at HSEB.
He informed that the education ministry has recently formed three-member task force under the co-ordination of Prof Dev Raj Adhikary, Devi Barakoti and Narayan Koirala.
The task force is assigned to study the feasibility of inclusion of tenth grade into the HSEB and formulate the structure within two months, informed Narayan Koirala, member of the task force.
“The HSEB should formulate the curriculum of grade 11 and 12 as well and should encourage those campuses that have PCL to shift it into 10+2 factor,” said Nepal.
Prof Madhav Prasad Sharma, vice chancellor of TU said the HSEB is the basis of higher education.
“Higher education should be easily accessible. If only proficiency certificate level be taken care by HSEB, the universities could concentrate more on tertiary education. TU has not been able to focus on tertiary education,” said VC Sharma.
Meanwhile, Education Minister today provided Rs 500,000 each to 14 higher secondary community ‘model’ schools for building physical infrastructure and salary for at least one subject teacher.
