KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday seized huge caches of fireworks from various locations of Kathmandu valley.

Police raided a rented room of an Indian national in Jyatha, KMC-26 and arrested two persons with a huge cache of fireworks on Tuesday.

The arrested have been identified as Santosh Chaudhary (35) of Baginiya in India currently residing in Jyatha and local Niroj Shrestha (27), according to police.

Police confiscated huge caches of different brands of fireworks comprising 250 packets of sparkler (Jhirjhire), 75 packets of fountain (Gamala), 45 packets of ground spinner (Chakra), nine packets of hydro bomb (Hydrogen Sutali), 17 packets of missiles and rockets (Rocket)and eight bundles of Bhaishawaar worth around Rs 150,000 from the rented room of Chaudhary.

Likewise, Police raided a Ghattekulo-based stationery shop operated by Madan Prasad Dahal (40) of Gaighat in Udaypur district, in KMC-29, and arrested its owners with a cache of fireworks.

Police seized (20 pieces of fireworks, eight pieces of popper and snake (King Cobra), two pieces of Megha Cap fireworks, a packet of roll cap fireworks from the shop yesterday.

In the same location, police raided the Anjani Store and arrested its operator Rajan Kumar Mandal (44) and seized ( 12 packets of Coca Roll, 12 packets of Jhirmire, four small plastic pistols, and two packets of Atisbaaji on  the same day.

Similarly, police arrested Amrit Prasad Chaulagain (25) of Melamchi Municipality-1 of Sindhupalchok district with a huge caches of fireworks from his shop in Asan of KMC-27 on Tuesday.

Police raided the Amrit Toy Shop operated by Chaulagain and seized various brands of fire crackers worth around Rs 2,500,000.

LIkewise, in the raid, police arrested three persons for operating illegal trade of fireworks in Duwakot of Changunarayan Municipality-1 in Bhaktapur district on Tuesday.

A team of police deployed from Duwakot-based Metropolitan Police Sector, raided a grocery operated by the locals Sukamaya Tamang, Samjhana Tamang, Nirmala Basnet and arrested all three along with (117 packets of Khursani fireworks, 14 packets of sparkler, a packet of Chatu fireworks, three packets of missiles and rockets, a packet of Hydro Bomb, Two rockets on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, further investigation into the cases are underway, police said.
