Impersonator in police net

Kathmandu: A man who pretended to be an influential journalist having connections with security bigwigs was nabbed last week after he had cheated eight persons.

Bhesh Bahadur Thapa, originally from Gulmi, has registered a Rastriya Naya Bichar daily. Pradip Acharya, a close friend of Raju Gorkhali, who is a local gangster serving time, had given Rs 2 lakh to Thapa for effecting the release of Gorkhali. Acharya later filed a complaint against Thapa.

According to SP Nawaraj Silwal, chief, Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, Thapa also cheated people by promising them to recruit them in the police and army.

He had cheated Chandra Man Shrestha of Sifal, Kathmandu, of Rs 3.67 lakh promising to send him to US.
