KATHMANDU, NOVEMBER 25

President Bidhya Devi Bhandari has said effective implementation of laws is imperative to end all sorts of violence against women.

Giving a message of best wishes on the occasion of 16 Days of Activism against gender based violence and International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women today, President Bhandari wished success for the activism.

Various programmes are being organised with the national resolution of 'ending VAW from home'.

"The constitution has resolved to build an equitable, prosperous and just society based on the principles of proportional system, inclusion and participation," she reminded, adding that noticeable participation of women in people' elected institutions and in politics have caused a wave of women empowerment.

However, she expressed worry over social evils such as Chhaupadi, allegation of witchcraft, discrimination against women, and superstitions that have plagued the lives of many women in Nepal.

Activism is important for massive public awareness at the household and community levels against such social evils and anomalies. President Bhandari underscored the need to make women financially self-reliant.
