Kerosene diversion flayed

KATHMANDU:

Nepal Consumers’ Forum on Friday condemned the government’s decision to distribute subsidised kerosene through the Nepal Food Corporation and other cooperative institutions. NCF alleged the government had decided to give authority to such institutions which did not have infrastructure, adding the move would create more confusion and result in consumers remaining deprived of kerosene. In a release, NCF also accused the government of neglecting bodies like the Salt Trading Corporation. The NCF also demanded the government continue distribution of kerosene from Salt Trading Corporation. — HNS

Drug pedlar held

KATHMANDU:

A police team from the Narcotic Drug Control Law Enforcement Unit (New Baneshwor) on Thursday arrested Suk Bahadur Gurung from Tribhuvan International Airport with 1.55 kg of hashish. Gurung was nabbed following a tip-off from the airport. A medical check-up at the Birendra Police Hospital ascertained that he had swallowed the drug in 171 capsules. He was scheduled to take off for Hong Kong on a Royal Nepal Airlines flight. Gurung hails from Dharampani-6, Tanahu. — HNS

Thapa RPP meet in March

KATHMANDU:

Former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa-led breakaway faction of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has decided to hold its “greater national political convention” on March 3, 4 and 5 in Kathmandu. This was decided at a meeting of the central working co-mmittee on Friday, acco-rding to Sarbendra Nath Shukla, coordinator of the central publicity committee. — HNS

MBBS results published

KATHMANDU:

Results of the second MBBS examinations conducted by the Kathmandu University in November-December 2004 have been published on Friday. The results of the BA social work first year, first semester, BA social work second year, first semester and BA social work, third year, first semester examinations, under the Kathmandu University School of Arts held in December 2004 have also been published. — RSS
