Traffic equipment stuck

KATHMANDU:

A traffic signal equipment being imported from Japan to replace the damaged one at Maitighar is stuck at the Birgunj Customs Office for the last three months. Sunil Poudyal, an engineer of the Traffic Unit at the Department of Roads, said the system could not reach the valley because the office concerned has not paid the customs charges. It may be mentioned that after the system stopped working in January 2004 and one person died while crossing the road at the place. Poudyal said that the system cost Rs 7.5 million. — HNS
