Securitymen injure civilian

KATHMANDU: Security forces shot at a local on suspicion of being a Maoist at Shankhapark, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-4, on Friday evening. “Rajendra Prasad Phuyal, from Kavresthali-1, was shot at because of suspicious behaviour,” Royal Nepal Army sources said. Phuyal sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at Birendra Army Hospital in Chhauni. However, locals said that security forces indiscriminately shot at a mob at Shankhapark and Phunyal was injured in the process. — HNS

Resignation accepted

KATHMANDU: The resignation from his post submitted by the president of Press Council Nepal, Kedar Nath Acharya, stating that the government expressed its disinterest to provide him facilities at par with that provided to Supreme Court judges, has been accepted, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications. — RSS

Meetings on wildlife trade

KATHMANDU: The international wildlife trade monitoring network, TRAFFIC, is convening two regional workshops in Kathmandu this week. An American embassy press release stated this on Friday. “Key stakeholders will evaluate wildlife trade in South Asia and seek ways to enable the governments of the region to work together to ensure wildlife trade doesn’t threaten the survival of wildlife,” the release said. — HNS

Leopard injures three

BHAKTAPUR: Three persons were wounded by a leopard at Sirutar VDC, Pilagaun of Bhaktapur, on Friday. The leopard attacked Purna Maya Rajthala, 55, of Lubhu VDC, Lalitpur, at Pilagaun while on her way to her maternal home at Dadhikot, according to locals. At around 9:00 am, it attacked Ram Lal Shrestha, 26, and Jiwan Shrestha, 30, who were reaping wheat in a field at Pilagaun. The wounded were rushed to Bhaktapur hospital and the condition of one is said to be critical. — RSS

Baskota is film board prez

KATHMANDU: The government has nominated Shambhujeet Baskota president of the Nepal Film Development Board for two years. Ashok Sharma, Krishna Malla and Mukunda Dhungana have been nominated members, the Ministry of Information and Communications stated on Friday. — RSS

Collective bel bebaha

MADHYAPUR THIMI: The Narayan Bhajan Mandal, Madhyapur Thimi organised a collective bel bebaha, the Newari custom of marriage for young girls here on Thursday. Altogether 86 young girls took part in the religious and cultural ritual that is compulsory for Newari girls. -- RSS
