Aid for Chiluwal’s kin

KATHMANDU: The American Ambassador to Nepal, Michael E Malinowski, presented scholarship funds on behalf of the Sahara Group, to the widow and two children of Ganesh Chiluwal, the leader of the Association of Victims of Maoist Violence, who was killed recently. The scholarship was donated from the proceeds of a soccer game held between foreign diplomats and joint secretaries of the government on March 1, 2004, at Dasharath Stadium in the Valley. — HNS

Free cataract operation

KATHMANDU: Altogether 80 cataract patients between the ages of 40 to 91 went surgery for the eye ailment free of cost from April 14 to 21, under the joint aegis of Chhetrapati Free Clinic and German-based Global Eye Mission. The eight member team was headed by a German eye specialist, according to a release issued here on Thursday. — HNS

Dr Chapagain no more

KATHMANDU: Senior litterateur Dr Narendra Chapagain passed away due to heart attack in Biratnagar on Thursday. Chapagain had been admitted to a local nursing home in the evening but the doctors could not save him. He has written dozens of books on Nepali literature, critical commentary and grammar. He was born in Bhojpur Dingla in 1998 BS. Chapagain is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. — HNS
