CA members probe

KATHMANDU: A team of women CA members on Saturday left for Achham to carry out on-the-spot study of the incident related to the gang rape of a policewoman by fellow policemen in Achham district. The team led by coordinator Kalpana Rana will investigate the incident. The other members of the team are Dama Kumari Sharma, Shanti Adhikari Basnet, Dal Kumari Sunuwar and two employees of the CA Secretariat. Rana said the team will reach Achham on Sunday. Seven policemen had been accused of rape charges while they served at the District Police Office, on September 27. Meanwhile, the Inter-party Women''s Network constituted by the sister organisations of various political parties has been trying to meet the Prime Minister regarding the rape incident but the PM’s office has not availed time to them. — RSS

Bamboo handicrafts

BHAKTAPUR: A delegation of handicraft experts on Saturday observed the bamboo handicraft items prepared by Balkumari Women Forest Consumer's Group based in Gundu- 4 of Bhaktapur. It is said the observation was arranged with a view to introduce the development of modern bamboo farming and bamboo handicraft items prepared in the district to international market. The members of the delegation were from China, Netherlands, Japan, Bangladesh and Sweden. After the observation, the team promised to help transport our products to international markets, said group's chairperson Anita Basnet. The group had, earlier, received the Abraham Lincoln International Award.— RSS.

Professors awarded

KATHMANDU: The Dr. Balram Joshi Knowledge and Science National Award for this year was given away to scientist Prof. Chhabilal Gajurel on Friday. He was honoured with dosalla and was given cash prize worth Rs. 50,101 by Angoor Baba Joshi, Chairperson of the Foundation.The qualified teacher award went to Professor Hemang Dixit for his longtime contribution in the sector of medical education. He was honoured with dosalla, a letter of honour and Rs. 25,101 cash prize. RSS ------ .
