For children’s sake

KATHMANDU: Marking the National Children's Day, Child Workers in Nepal (CWIN) Concerned Centre handed over thumb impressions of one million kids to Subash Chandra Nembang, chairman of Constituent Assembly, amidst a function on Monday and demanded that rights of children be included in the new constitution. The thumb impressions were collected under Fostering New Constitution: National Campaign for Full Respect of Child Rights-2009 run by 739 organisations from 67 districts in the country. Meanwhile, Maiti Nepal on Monday celebrated the Children's Day with the slogan "Our concern for ensuring child rights in the new constitution". A press statement issued by the welfare organisation mentioned that they had urged the government to ensure the rights of children to education, health, entertainment and nutrition in the constitution. There are around 300 children under the protection of Maiti Nepal, an NGO working for women and children for the last 16 years. — HNS

Hospital to reopen

KATHMANDU: Faculty Doctors' Association at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital pulled out their protest programme following talks with the hospital employees' union on Monday. The employees' union held a grudge against FDA over seats reserved for employee's child at TUTH. While, FDA had halted services except emergencies since August 30, protesting the attack on its president Modh Nath Marhattha. Keshav Prasad Singh, TUTH director said "All the morning services and morning classes shall resume from Tuesday," stated a joint statement. — HNS
