Martyrs’ Day observed

KATHMANDU: On the occasion of Martyrs Day, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at Lainchaur to pay tributes to the martyrs. During a function organised by the Martyrs’ Week Main Celebration Committee Constituent Assembly chairman Subash Nembang also paid tributes to the martyrs. High-level government officials, security officials and civil society members had also attended the function. Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) also organised a programme at its party office, Sanepa, to pay tribute to the martyrs. Party president Girija Prasad Koirala and vice-president Gopalman Shrestha paid tributes to the martyrs. — HNS

New UNMIN chief

KATHMANDu: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has recommended the Security Council to appoint Karin Landgren of Sweden as his Special Representative in Nepal, said a statement issued here on Thursday by UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN). Landgren has been serving in Nepal as the Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative in Nepal since September last year. It said, Landgren in her new role will head a downsized UNMIN after the departure of Ian Martin. — HNS
