Deuba in Dubai

KATHMANDU: Former prime minister and central leader of the Nepali Congress Sher Bahadur Deuba and NC youth leader Gagan Thapa are in Dubai to take part in the 1st General Convention of Nepali Janasamparka Samiti. According to General Secretary of the Samiti Bimal Subedi, the leaders would meet with Nepalis living in UAE and visit the Nepali Embassy during their three-day stay. Journalists awarded

KATHMANDU: Kaushal Pandey, a Makwanpur-based journalist, has been awarded with the Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award 2009.The award carries a purse of Rs 25,001 and a copper plaque. Pandey is the third recipient of the award instituted by senior industrialist, late Mohan Gopal Khetan and administered by the Editors’ Society Nepal. Similarly, the Govinda Biyogi Journalism Award administered by Govinda Biyogi Memorial Trust was awarded to journalist Kailash Bhandari. — RSS

Call to reopen TU

KIRTIPUR: Leaders of major student unions have appealed to the government to reopen the Tribhuvan University (TU) by addressing the demands of Kirtipur locals. At a meeting of the representatives of the unions, student leaders said the closure of the university had drawn their attention. The meeting was called by the Free Student Union (FSU) at the TU’s central campus. The student leaders said it was a matter of shame that the country’s oldest university had been closed for over two weeks urging the government to address the demands of Kirtipur locals. — RSS
