Kathmandu: The police on Sunday arrested at least 16 journalists while they were staging a sit-in at the southern gate of Singha Durbar in support of the agitation launched by journalists of Nepal One television’s Kathmandu bureau. They were released two hours later. Around 200 journalists affiliated to several media organisations also participated in the protest organised by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) to express solidarity with the protest of Nepal One journalists. FNJ general secretary Posan KC, vice-president Govinda Acharya and FNJ member Ujir Magar were injured when police intervened in the protest. — HNS

KATHMANDU: The third convention of Society of Agricultural Scientists elected a new executive committee under the chair of Dr Hira Kaji Manandhar. The 11-member executive committee has Dr Jagat Rai as vice-chairman, Dr Tek Bahadur Gurung as general secretary, Keshav Prasad Shrestha as treasurer and Bhoj Raj Joshi, Tulsi Prasad Poudel and Surya Narayan Shah as secretaries. — HNS
