CA verdict put off

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Sunday rescheduled for Friday the date to announce its decision on whether to issue show cause notice to the defendants in a case related to constitutionality of the first Constituent Assembly meeting and its May 28 decisions. A single bench of Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma rescheduled the date for the decision, citing need for more time to study the case. “I have not been able to study into the case due to lack of time,” Justice Sharma said. “This is a serious issue and I need some more time to study the case,” he added. — HNS

Prize for Prachanda

KATHMANDU: Dr Dilli Raman Regmi Foundation has decided to award the 2008 National Peace Prize to CPN-Maoist president Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The award, consisting of Rs 1 lakh and a letter of appreciation, was given to Prachanda in recognition of his role in heralding peace and republican order in Nepal, a statement released by the Foundation on Sunday said. The Foundation has also decided to present former American president Jimmy Carter with the 2008 International Peace Prize for his role in the Nepalese peace process. — HNS

Baral blasts parties

Kathmandu: Political analyst Dr Lok Raj Baral on Sunday said the political parties were not paying attention on the agenda of federalism despite this being an important issue for the new constitution. “Barring the Maoists, the parties had no vision about the federal structure,” he said while addressing an interaction. — HNS
