Envoy meets PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said on Monday that Nepal will not let anti-China activities take place on its territory. Koirala said this during a meeting with Chinese ambassador to Nepal Zheng Xianglin. During the meeting, which took place at the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar, Xianglin expressed concern about Tibetan refugees’ protest in Nepal, adviser to the PM on foreign affairs Aditya Baral said. “China is ready to extend any kind of support to Nepal to make the constituent assembly polls a success,” Baral quoted the ambassador as sayng. “Nepal supports one-China policy. Anti-Chinese activities will not be allowed in Nepal,” Baral quoted Koirala as telling Xianglin. — HNS

Observers call on PM

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala on Monday said it is important to have election observers from several Asian countries in the upcoming constituent assembly election in Nepal. The Prime Minister said this during his meeting with the members of senior observation team of the Asian Network for Free Election at his official residence in Baluwatar on Monday, the ANFREL said in a statement. The Prime Minister also stated that Nepal was learning from other countries like East Timor, which is also emerging from a post-conflict situation, the ANFREL said. The observation team led by former supreme commander of the Thai Army General Saiyud Kerdphol noted that Nepal has been a role model for other countries in the region for its ability to successfully engage in dialogue with rebels and create an environment for Constituent Assembly election. — HNS

UML moves EC

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML has lodged a 10-point complaint at the Election Commission against the CPN-Maoist and the Nepali Congress, accusing them of violating the election code of conduct. The UML has listed 96 incidents of violation of the code by CPN-Maoist cadres and two incidents by Nepali Congress cadres. The party said CPN-UML leaders and cadres were manhandled, attacked or obstructed from poll campaigning in 38 districts. The party has sought action against those violating the code. — RSS
