UK visa processing

KATHMANDU: The British government has decided to carry out work related to visa processing, which it was doing from its Embassy here, from the British High Commission in New Delhi, starting February 18. Issuing a release on Wednesday, the British Embassy said the VFS Global office at Nagpokhari would continue to collect the visa applications as earlier, adding the applications will then be forwarded to the British High Commission in New Delhi. The applicants will not have to visit New Delhi for interviews, as all applications will be processed without any interview, it stated. — RSS

Yami inspects road

KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Planning and Works, Hisila Yami, inspected the Bishmati Corridor road on Wednesday. The corridor starting from Kalimati is under construction, whereas the 15 km track has already been opened up to Sanglojhor. During the inspection, Yami said the Nepal Government will give priority for black-topping and extension of the road. Secretary at the Ministry Purna Kadariya and director general of the Department of Roads Tulasi Sitaula also inspected the site. — RSS

Awards for kids

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Child Literary Society on Tuesday decided to award Child Literary Writing Award 2063 to Binay Kumar Kasaju’s Ghadiharuko Jamghat (A gathering of clocks), a pictorial story for children, and Anil Poudel’s Amachari, a children’s novel. The society has also decided to award Kirtikishor Joshi’s pictorial story for kids Manuko Mane. Each award carries Rs 5,000 in cash and a felicitation letter. The society’s 19th anniversary will be marked in Thankot from February 22 to 23. — RSS

Preparation for polls

LALITPUR: A district election office has been set up on the premises of the district administration office in Lalitpur for Constituent Assembly election. District election officer Gajendra Nath Sharma said a security base camp for the polls has been established under the command of a DSP. The base camp will have 100 police personnel of the Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force. The office has also speeded up preparations for the polls like updating of voters’ list, voters’ education, fixing of polling centres and interactions with political parties. There will be 247 polling centres in 127 polling stations in the district for the CA polls. — RSS
