Cops grill Manange
KATHMANDU: A team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Hanumandhoka, took gangster Deepak Manange into custody from his residence in Pakanajol on Thursday evening. Police said they wanted to question him about his involvement in ‘criminal activities’ in the Valley. However, police didn’t categorically say for which case they wanted to interrogate Manange. — HNS
Panel summons Singh
KATHMANDU: The parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Friday decided to call Durgesh Man Singh to appear before it on January 9 to respond to complaints made against him. The government has nominated Singh for the post of Ambassador to India, replacing Shailaja Acharya. Acharya is currently sick. Women lawmakers of the committee demanded that Acharya be replaced by a woman candidate and it has given five days’ time for complaints to be filed against Singh. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Planning and Works Hisila Yami on Friday said the government will extend necessary support to conserve the site at Om Bahal where an ancient water spout was found on Wednesday. — HNS
Call for CA election
Bhaktapur: The National Election Monitoring Alliance (NEMA) on Friday organised a discussion on the role of civil society to pile pressure on the government and political parties to conduct the CA polls on schedule and in an environment free from fear. The NEMA is an alliance of 14 NGOs, including PABSON and National Teachers’ Union, which have networks nationwide. — HNS
Maoists’ meet today
Kathmandu: CPN-Maoist’s central committee meeting is scheduled to take place on Saturday in Kavre to formulate a strategy for the Constituent Assembly election scheduled for mid-April. Senior Maoist leader CP Gajurel said the central committee will form a panel headed by party chairman Prachanda to select party’s candidates for the CA polls. — HNS
