Dalit thrashed

KATHMANDU: The National Dalit Commission expressed concern on Sunday over the beating up of a Dalit woman in Makawanpur. Ganesh Bahadur Dangol had beaten up Dhanamaya, saying she assisted his daughter to elope with a Dalit boy. Issuing a release, the NDC stated, “This is a shocking news at a time when the country has been declared free of discrimination.” The NDC demanded due compensation for the victim and urged all people of all castes and creeds to check such cases. — HNS

NA’s PR exercise

Kathmandu: Nepal Army has initiated a three-year ‘people-oriented’ training programme for army officials of all levels. A press release issued by the Public Relation Directorate of the NA on Sunday said training would be imparted on topics ranging from international humanitarian law and human rights to army and communication, role of national and international non-governmental organisations and issues relating to civil society, the release added. — HNS
