SC summons Gupta
KATHMANDU: Supreme Court on Sunday summoned former minister Jaya Prakash Gupta to defend an appeal filed by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority challenging the Special Court verdict that had cleared him of corruption charge. A division bench of Justices Ram Prasad Shrestha and Tahir Ali Ansari issued the summons. The CIAA had challenged the Special Court decision to clear the then Minister for Information and Communications, Gupta, and the Managing Director of the Kantipur Television from corruption charges. — HNS
Awards announced
KATHMANDU: The Madan Puruskar Trust has decided to honour Mahesh Bikram Shah with this year’s Madan Puruskar. The prize has been awarded for Shah’s compilation of stories titled Chapamarko Choro. Dr Tirtha Bahadur Shrestha has been announced the recipient of this year’s Jagadamba Puruskar. — RSS

KATHMANDU: An emergency meeting of the Politburo of Communist Party of Nepal (ML) held on Sunday passed a condolence proposal stating that the party is shocked by the demise of Chandra Maya Mainali, the mother of General Secretary of the Party, CP Mainali. The meeting paid tributes her and extended deep condolence to the bereaved family. — RSS
