Mountaineers feted
KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prithvi Subba Gurung on Sunday felicitated successful mountaineers from Nepal Television-Lions Everest Expedition 2007 and some media persons. Minister Gurung felicitated Kami Sherpa from the expedition, Sonam Sherpa from Lions Club,Diwas Pokhrel, general secretary of Everest Mountaineering Association, Kiran Man Chitrakar, Director of Nepal Television, Raju Silwal, senior reporter and mountaineers Lalapagaljya Sherpa and Da Chemba Sherpa. — HNS
Peasants’ demands
KATHMANDU: The Nepal Peasants’ Association (NPA) on Sunday submitted a charter of 102 demands to the Prime Minister. According to a press statement issued on Sunday by the NPA, their demands include declaring the date of Constituent Assembly election, creation of fear-free environment for the election, returning of the assets of the peasants seized during the insurgency period and allocation of 40 per cent of the total national budget in the agriculture. — HNS
NDF’s mission
KATHMANDU: The National Disabled Federation (NDF) has been launching various protest programme with a view to ensuring rights of two million disabled in a campaign to make a new Nepal, said NDF. Various speakers stressed on the need of collective efforts from all disabled people to give shape to the issues raised by the NDF. NDF Chairman Birendra Kumar Pokharel said NDF would be active in the campaign of mainstreaming disabled people in the making of a new Nepal. — RSS
Ministry drafting Bill
KATHMANDU: Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare is preparing to forward a bill on domestic violence to the parliament. At a meeting organised on Sunday by the ministry with the help of UN agencies, to discuss the content of the bill, participants stressed on the need to take initiative to end violence on women within the house and family. The issue of violence against women in the house and the family should not be ignored, they said. — RSS
