KATHMANDU: The government will be opening an embassy in Israel within two months, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan said on Tuesday. The embassy will be opened with a view to taking care of Nepalis working in that country, she said. — HNS

CIAA directive to NAC

Kathmandu: The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on Tuesday directed the Nepal Airlines Corporation to follow proper procedures in aircraft maintenance. The CIAA issued the order after it found irregularities in the maintenance of an NAC aircraft’s RB 211-535 E4 engine ESN 30658. The NAC managing director should have decided to approve the maintenance on the basis of proposal in this regard, the CIAA said. — HNS

Minor ‘raped’

KATHMANDU: A police team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Balaju, on Tuesday arrested Yograj Pandey, the owner of Jyoti Childrens’ Home, on the charge of raping a 12-year-old girl of the shelter home at his office at KMC-16. Pandey, who hails from Nuwakot, called the girl in his office and raped her on Monday, police said. — HNS

Sandalwood seized

KATHMANDU: A police team, in cooperation with the Young Communist League, on Tuesday seized 2 tonnes of red sandalwood from a house owned by Gam Bahadur Shrestha at Gaurighat, Gaushala. According to inspector Jayram Sapkota at the Metropolitan Police Section, Gaushala, the sandalwood was stored in an underground room of the house. “The house owner told us that he had let out the room to a man called Shyam,” Sapkota said. — HNS

Death condoled

KATHMANDU: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prithvi Subba Gurung, on Tuesday expressed condolence on the demise of record holder mountaineer Pemba Doma Sherpa. A press statement issued by Gurung said, “We have been shocked by the death of Sherpa on May 21 in an accident while returning after climbing Lhotse Himal.” — HNS
