Clean village

LALITPUR: The Siddhipur Village Development Committee (VDC) declared itself a clean zone on Saturday, meaning the VDC is now free of sanitation and sewage problems. With support from the UN-Habitat and Water Aid, villagers constructed 750 toilets in their households and three public toilets within a year. Over 95 per cent of 1,300 households in the VDC have toilets now. Thirteen consumers’ committees were felicitated at a programme on Saturday. A drama on sanitation was also staged on the occasion. Speaking at the programme, Krishna Kumar Maharjan, president of the Consumer’s Committee, said that the Siddhipur Water Project will supply water to the households from June. — HNS

Committee’s AGM

LALITPUR: The Sanepa Ring Road Consumer’s Committee organised its second annual general meeting on Saturday. Rs 0.98 million was spent in the Sanepa area in the current fiscal year in development activities, including laying of water pipelines and gravelling, the committee said. — HNS

Kirat federation

KATHMANDU: Seven indigenous Kirat associations have formed a Federation of Indigenous Kirat Associations, a press release said on Saturday. The FIKA was registered at the District Administration Office Kathmandu on Wednesday. The federation comprises Yamphu Kirat Samaj, Kirat Rodu Nachhiring Sakham, Kirat Welfare Society, Kirat Chamling Language and Culture Upliftment Association, Thulung Samaj, Bahing Kirat Mulukhim and Nepal Kirat Language and Culture Upliftment Association. A meeting of the seven organisations, held on April 29, had discussed agendas of the Kirat community and agreed to move ahead together. — HNS
