Grant for forest plans

KATHMANDU: Japan has decided to grant Rs 3 million for the implementation of forest conservation projects in remote villages in Myagdi and Parbat districts, a press release issued by the Embassy of Japan on Friday said. The grant will be part of funds for a similar project being run by the Institute of Himalayan Conservation (IHC) since 2005. — HNS

Hashimoto’s visit

KATHMANDU: Madam Kumiko Hashimoto, the wife of the late Ryutaro Hashimoto, former Prime minister of Japan, their eldest son and singer Judy Ongg visited Kanti children’s Hospital on Friday. A statement issued here said the late Hashimoto had established the ‘Hashimoto Trust Fund’ in 1993 and the trust will give away the ‘Hashimoto Medical Award’ to personnel excelling in free medical care services. — HNS

UNESCO NGO’s meet

Kathmandu: Speakers at a programme on Friday said all organisations under the UNESCO should be merged for better facilitation of services. Addressing the first general assembly of the UNESCO National Federation of NGOs- Nepal, Arjun Bahadur Bhandari, the joint-secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports said: “If the organisations and other bodies related to UNESCO are unified, it will be much easier to support the programmes conducted by such NGOs.” — HNS
