School’s 61st anniv
KATHMANDU: The Padmodaya Higher Secondary School on Tuesday marked its 61st anniversary. Addressing the programme, Minister for Education and Sports Dr. Mangal Siddi Manandhar, said the arrangements are to be made for setting questions for SLC exams from grade 10 course only for increasing the passed rate in SLC exams. He said the community schools would flourish well if the government took their financial responsibility and the community looked after their management. —RSS
Suspension bridges
LALITPUR: Remote Area Development Committee is to construct 57 suspension bridges in remote areas this year. The committee has been running various development projects such as constructing suspension bridges, electrification and irrigation. Vice-secretary at the committee, Duk Bahadur Roka said Rs 90 million has been allocated for the development activities in thirteen remote districts and nine semi-remote districts. — RSS
Glossary published
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Education and Sports, Curriculum Development Centre has published Nepali Shabdamala, a glossary of difficult Nepali words used in the Nepali text books from grade one to 10. The glossary, jointly edited by Prof Dr Dayaram Shrestha, lecturer Chudamani Kafle and Vishnu Adhikari, contains 500 words. — RSS
Training ends
KATHMANDU: Brigadier General Ramesh Kumar Bista on Monday concluded the aircraft mechanics training conducted in No 11 of Chauchar of Kathmandu. Twenty- eight trainees, including four women soldiers attended the 11-week training. — RSS
New procedure
KATHMANDU: The US embassy is changing its non-immigrant visa application system with effect from April 1, 2007. All applicants for non-immigrant visas (tourist, students, etc) will be required to submit Electronic Visa Application Forms (EVAF). As per the new system, typed or handwritten applications will no longer be accepted. Speaking at a press conference organised by the embassy here on Tuesday, Head of the Immigrant Department Robert N. Farquhar informed that the EVAF forms are available online at http://evisaforms.state.gov. According to him, five Nabil Bank branches located in Biratnagar, Birgunj, Butwal, Pokhara and Nepalgunj would collect the applicants’ forms and provide the date for interview. — RSS
