Stir put off

KATHMANDU: Kin of Chapacho victims on Saturday decided to temporarily suspend their agitation, including the planned Valley bandh of Sunday. In a statement, the Joint Civil Struggle Committee said the decision had been taken at the request of political parties, CA members, rights activists and lawyers. “We decided to put off the protest programmes until further notice after they pledged support for the fulfilment of our demands,” read the statement. — HNS

Four deaths in Valley

Kathmandu: Four persons lost their lives in different incidents in the Kathmandu valley in the past 24 hours. According to a statement issued by the Police Headquarters, Ashok Yadav (35) of Birgunj was electrocuted. He died on the way to hospital, police said. Shanti Gurung (28) of Khalte VDC, Dhading, was found hanging in her rented room in Balaju. Police said the investigation into the case was underway. Gopal Raut (55) of Birgunj was killed last night when a motorcycle hit him at Thulo Bharyang in Kathmandu. Raut died on the way to Bir Hospital, police confirmed. An unidentified man of about 55 was found dead at Bal Kumari temple in Lalitpur this morning. — HNS
