Hubby kills wife

KATHMANDU: One Krishna Bahadur Rai (35), beat up his wife Manju (32) to death at his rented apartment at Ganeshsthan, Chabahil, on Friday and fled, police quoted house-owner Chandra Lal Bhandari as saying. Quoting neighbours, police said the two always quarrelled with each other. “They were quarrelling in the evening. We found Manju dead in the morning,” the house-owner told the police. Meanwhile, police found one Devi Lal Rai (26) of Udaypur dead in the City Guest House, Gaushala, the same day. The cause of Rai’s death is yet to be ascertained. police said. Bhattarai bags award

KATHMANDU: A journalist associated with the Kantipur daily, Devendra Bhattarai, was on Friday awarded the Uttam Shanti Award for his book Srasta Ra Samay. Srasta Ra Samay is a compilation of profiles of noted personalities ranging from litterateurs to journalists who have contributed to the development of the society. Litterateur Krishna Chandra Singh Pradhan handed over the award, which carries a purse of Rs 25,000. The award was presented at a function organised to mark the 68th birth anniversary of Uttam Kunwar. — HNS
