Envoy’s Nepal visit

KATHMANDU: Norwegian Minister for International Development, Erik Solheim, who arrived in Kathmandu on Tuesday, met UNDP resident coordinator Matthew Kahane and the Indian ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday. He is also scheduled to meet PM Girija Prasad Koirala and the ministers of finance and foreign affairs on Thursday. — HNS

Indian grant for trust

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Development Committee, Sushma Koirala Memorial Campus, Sankhu, and the Embassy of India signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday for the construction of classroom block, hostel block and compound wall for Sushma Koirala Memorial Nursing Campus, the Indian Embassy said. The Government of India will provide grant assistance of Rs 27.6 million for the construction work. — HNS

Rajapaksa greets PM

KATHMANDU: Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksa has, in a congratulatory message to PM Girija Prasad Koirala, said Koirala’s appointment as the new Nepali PM is a triumph of democracy and a tribute to the people of Nepal, who have displayed exemplary courage and resilience. — RSS

All-party meeting

BHADRAPUR: The DAO held an all-party meeting here on Tuesday to discuss security situation in the changed political context. CDO Bhola Prasad Siwahoti, representatives of Nepali Congress, NC- D, CPN-UML, Red Cross, Trade Union Congress, media professionals, human rights activists, legal professionals, and others expressed their views at the meet. — RSS
