Husband fires at wife

KATHMANDU: Rajesh Rauniyar, 28, shot at his wife Puja Rauniyar at their residence in New Road on Friday night after a scuffle between them, police said. Puja is under treatment at Bir Hospital and is in a stable condition. Rajesh has been arrested. — HNS

Cash stolen

KATHMANDU: Unidentified persons on Friday stole $700 and RMB 500 from a room in Hotel Tasi Delek, Thamel, police said, adding that a Chinese national Tanaui Chen had rented the room. Chen, who was putting up at the hotel for some days, was not in the room when the theft took place. Meanwhile, unidentified persons broke open the main door Jitlal Maharjan’s house at Nakkhu, Lalitpur sub-metropolitan City-13, and stole Rs 35,000 on Friday, police said. SLC pass rate ‘dismal’

KATHMANDU: A meagre 20 per cent of students manage to advance through School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examinations, dubbed the Iron Gate, in Nepal, Training Project for Employment stated here today, citing a survey. Among the school-going age group, 20 per cent of children never get to enroll in any educational institution, 50 per cent of those enrolled drop out in the primary level, 84 per cent discontinue after secondary school (Class 10) and 82 per cent cannot make it through the SLC examinations. — RSS
