Bomb defused

KATHMANDU: A bomb disposal squad of the security forces defused a bomb planted at the office of Kirtipur municipality ward number 5 on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, policemen reached the spot at around 7 am, the Kirtipur Ward Police Office said, adding the area was cleared and the bomb disposal squad informed. The squad defused the pressure bomb at around 9 am, the police said. A pressure bomb explodes when one touches it. “The bomb might have been platnted last night,” a police official said. — HNS

Six robbers caught

Kathmandu: Valley Police caught six persons on the charge of looting Rs 1.33 lakh from the Thamel-based Earth Mount Holiday Hotel from Sukumbasti at Ranibari on Thursday. The six, including Dinesh alias Charo, had decamped with the cash after beating three staffers of the hotel on January 21, the police said. Other looters were identified as Ramkumar Khadka, 21, of Makawanpur, Kaji Sherpa, 22, of Sindhupalchowk, Rajan Kafle, 17, of Makawanpur, Ramkrishna Timalsina, 24, of Kavrepalanchowk and Madan Dulal, 23, of Ramechhap. A khukuri and a sword were seized from them, the police said. The six have confessed to the crime, the police said, adding they had been sent to the Kathmandu District Police Office for carrying out legal proceedings. Meanwhile, Ramgopal Chaudhary of Rautahat said two persons looted Rs 6,000 from him at the Jayabageshwori chowk on Thursday. — HNS

Fete postponed

KATHMANDU: The Bal Udyan Fete 2062, to be organised by the Bal Udyan Secondary Boarding School at Kalikasthan in Dillibazaar on Saturday, has been postponed after the founder and former principal of the school, BP Subba, died on Thursday. According to a press release issued here on Friday by the principal of the school, BK Bhujel, the fete will now be held on February 18. — HNS
